Gel polish basics (what makes it long-wear)

Gel polish lasts because it’s cured (hardened) in a lamp—application and curing technique matter.

1) Gel vs. regular polish (quick compare)

Regular polish: air-dry; easier removal; more prone to chipping.
Gel polish: lamp-cured; longer wear; requires safe removal.

2) Gel polish success formula

Prep: clean, dry, properly prepped nail plate.
Thin coats: gel is designed for thin layers—thick coats wrinkle and under-cure.
Cure correctly: correct lamp + correct time + correct hand position.
Seal edges: cap the free edge lightly to reduce chipping.

3) Safe curing (non-negotiables)

Follow the gel brand’s lamp compatibility and cure times.
Keep thumbs flat and fully under the lamp.
If gel feels hot: remove hand briefly, then return (heat spike management).

4) Removal (protect the nail)

Safe soak-off steps (beginner-safe):

File off top shine/top coat (lightly).
Apply acetone wrap (cotton + foil) and wait recommended time.
Gently push off softened gel (no scraping/forcing).
Re-wrap if needed—time is safer than force.
Buff lightly + oil + aftercare.

Never: peel gel off (causes layers of nail plate to lift).

Gentle, patient removal
