By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
[ ] Compare nail extension options (tips vs. full cover tips) and choose an appropriate option for a client scenario.
[ ] Size, prep, and apply tips safely (correct fit, correct adhesion, no lifting gaps).
[ ] Explain and demonstrate basic shaping principles (square, squoval, coffin, almond) and how to keep symmetry.
[ ] Identify common tip application mistakes (air bubbles, crooked placement, over-gluing) and how to fix/prevent them.
Tip application sets the foundation for structure
If tips are sized wrong or placed crooked, the whole set will look off—even with perfect acrylic.
1) Tips vs. full cover tips (simple)
Classic tips (partial): attach at the free edge; you build structure with product.
Full cover tips: cover the whole nail; structure may come from the tip + overlay (depends on system).
2) Tip sizing rules (non-negotiable)
Fit sidewall to sidewall with no pressure.
If you’re between sizes: choose the slightly larger and file the sidewalls to fit.
Never force a too-small tip (it pops off and causes lifting).
3) Prep + application basics (classic tips)
Prep natural nail (sanitize, shape, cuticle work, cleanse).
Select tip size for each nail and line them up in order.
Apply adhesive to contact area (thin, even).
Place tip at 45° then rock down to avoid air bubbles.
Hold steady until set.
Cut to length and shape.
Blend seam only if needed (light pressure).
4) Shaping principles (quick)
Look straight down the finger for center alignment.
Check sidewalls (lines should mirror).
Use a “2-second symmetry check” after shaping each nail.
5) Common mistakes + fixes
Crooked tip: remove and redo (don’t “file it straight” if alignment is off).
Air bubbles: caused by rocking too fast or too much glue → slow placement, thin glue.
Over-blending: thins nail plate → use light pressure; avoid aggressive filing.
6) Luxury standard
Luxury tip work looks like:
perfect fit
clean, even shape
consistent length across the hand

Instructor coaches students through the skill.
Guided practice flow (15–25 min)
Students size tips for 10 nails and line them up in order.
Students apply tips on a practice hand (focus: straight alignment).
Students cut + shape to one chosen shape (square or squoval first).
Instructor checks symmetry and sidewall lines.
Coach’s checklist:
[ ] Tip fits sidewall-to-sidewall (no forcing)
[ ] No visible bubbles
[ ] Tip is centered and straight
[ ] Length is consistent
[ ] Shape is symmetrical
Ask AI to Troubleshoot
My tips keep lifting—what are the top causes and fixes?
My shape looks uneven—how do I check symmetry quickly?
Ask AI to Coach
Give me a 7-day shaping practice plan.

Students perform the skill independently with a clear challenge.
