[ ] Use a step-by-step filing checklist to finish acrylic smoothly with less time and less dust.
Filing is finishing (not fixing)
If the foundation is good, filing is light and fast. If the foundation is messy, filing becomes aggressive—and that’s when damage happens.
1) The 4 goals of filing
Shape (free edge + sidewalls)
Structure (apex and thickness where needed)
Smoothness (no bumps)
Comfort (no heat, no thin spots)
2) Safe filing basics (beginner)
Use the correct grit for the step (coarse to remove bulk; finer to refine).
Light pressure; let the file do the work.
Keep the file flat where you want the surface flat.
Check symmetry every few strokes (don’t “file blind”).
3) The filing sequence (simple)
Sidewalls (set the shape)
Free edge (length + outline)
Surface (even out bumps)
Cuticle area refinement (lightest pressure)
Buff + finish
4) Top 5 filing mistakes
Over-filing the natural nail near the cuticle
Filing with heavy pressure (causes heat + thin spots)
