By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
[ ] Explain what an acrylic fill is (maintenance, rebalance, and retention) and when a client should book one.
[ ] Perform a beginner-safe fill prep routine (sanitation, assessment, cuticle work, remove lifting).
[ ] Demonstrate basic rebalance principles (where structure/apex needs support as nails grow out).
[ ] Complete a clean finish and aftercare + rebooking plan for maintenance clients.
Fills are where retention clients are built
A great fill keeps the set strong, comfortable, and clean—clients rebook when maintenance feels easy.
1) When a client should get a fill
Usually every 2–3 weeks depending on lifestyle and growth.
2) The fill priorities (order matters)
Safety + sanitation
Remove lifting (don’t cover problems)
Clean cuticle area (gentle, precise)
Rebalance structure (strength zone)
Finish and seal (shape + top coat)
3) Beginner-safe fill prep checklist
Sanitize hands + station.
Assess: cracks, lifting, discoloration, pain, broken skin.
Shorten length if needed (for balance).
Remove shine/top coat (lightly).
Remove lifting product completely (never “cap” lifting).
Cuticle work: push back gently; remove non-living tissue only.
Dust + cleanse.
4) Rebalance basics (simple)
As nails grow, the strength point shifts forward. Your job is to restore the apex/strength zone so the nail doesn’t break.
Beginner cues:
If the nail looks flat → needs structure.
If the free edge feels heavy → taper and refine.
5) Luxury standard
Luxury fills are:
clean cuticle area
minimal heat and dust
consistent shape + comfortable thickness

<ol class="font_8">
<li><p class="font_8">Fill assessment: lifting vs serviceable areas.</p></li>
<li><p class="font_8">Safe removal of lifting (no damage to nail plate).</p></li>
<li><p class="font_8">Cuticle-area refinement (light pressure).</p></li>
<li><p class="font_8">Rebalance: building strength zone.</p></li>
<li><p class="font_8">Shape + finish + top coat.</p></li>
</ol>
<p class="font_8">What to watch for:</p>
<ul class="font_8">
<li><p class="font_8">Lifting removed fully.</p></li>
<li><p class="font_8">Cuticle area stays clean (no flooding).</p></li>
<li><p class="font_8">Structure looks balanced from side view.</p></li>
</ul>
Instructor coaches students through the skill.
Guided practice flow (15–25 min)
Students practice lifting removal on tips/practice hand.
Students prep cuticle area and cleanse.
Students rebuild/rebalance using the 3-zone approach.
Students finish-file and top coat.
Coach’s checklist:
[ ] Correct assessment (lifting identified)
[ ] Lifting removed completely
[ ] Cuticle prep is gentle and clean
[ ] Strength zone rebuilt appropriately
[ ] Finish is smooth and comfortable
Ask AI to Troubleshoot
My client keeps lifting at the cuticle—what should I check first?
My fills look bulky—what should I refine first?
Ask AI to Script
Write a luxury rebooking script for acrylic fills.
<p class="font_8">Students perform the skill independently with a clear challenge.</p>
