Lesson 8: E-File Skill Check (Assessment + Safety Standards)

NT301-M04-L02

M04-L02

60

Intermediate

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

 • [ ] Complete a skill check using a clear safety + quality rubric for e-file work.

 • [ ] Demonstrate consistent stabilization, safe pressure, correct angle, and comfort-first communication.

 • [ ] Self-assess using the rubric and identify the top 3 improvements for the next practice cycle.

 • [ ] Prepare a submission package (photos + notes) that documents mastery and professionalism.

A skill check turns practice into mastery

If you don’t measure it, you can’t improve it. The purpose of this lesson is to:

 • test safety (non-negotiable)

 • test finish quality (luxury standard)

 • test consistency (across the set)

1) Safety pass/fail (must pass)

Fail if any of the following happen:

 • client reports burning/heat not corrected immediately

 • redness/irritation from e-file contact

 • suspected natural nail over-filing (“rings of fire”)

 • unsafe sanitation/dust control

2) Quality scoring (after safety pass)

Score areas 1–5:

 • stabilization/control

 • shape symmetry

 • surface smoothness

 • cuticle margin cleanliness (product only)

 • dust control + professionalism

3) Consistency requirement

Mastery is not one perfect nail. Mastery is:

 • 8/10 nails meeting the standard, minimum

 • no “problem nails” that are clearly worse than the rest

4) How to improve fast (the feedback loop)

 1. Perform the set

 2. Score honestly

 3. Choose top 3 improvements

 4. Drill those improvements for 7 days

 5. Retest

5) Luxury standard

Luxury mastery looks like:

 • calm, confident work

 • comfort maintained

 • smooth finish

 • crisp, clean margin

 • consistent shape across all nails

Instructor demonstrates:

Full refine + finish workflow.

How to evaluate the set with the rubric.

Photo angles for documentation.

How to create an improvement drill plan.

consistent checks

rubric-based corrections

Practice:

 • Students complete a full set refinement (or practice hand) while following the rubric checkpoints.

 • Students take documentation photos (top/side/barrel).

 • Students score themselves, then compare with instructor score.

Coach’s checklist:

 • [ ] Safety pass achieved (no heat/redness)

 • [ ] Shape consistent across set

 • [ ] Smooth surface

 • [ ] Clean margin (product only)

 • [ ] Professional workflow and dust control

 • Create a personal 7-day drill plan based on my lowest rubric score.

 • Quiz me on e-file safety and troubleshooting (15 questions).

 • Help me write a short reflection that shows what I improved.
