By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

[ ] Explain the difference between 3D design, charms, and texture (and when each is appropriate).
[ ] Place charms and 3D elements for balance, comfort, and wearability.
[ ] Encapsulate textured elements correctly to reduce snagging and improve longevity.
[ ] Apply a client lifestyle decision system (work, nails-as-tools, length tolerance) to choose the right texture level.

Texture looks expensive when it’s intentional and wearable

3D and charms can look luxury—or messy—depending on placement and finish.

1) Wearability rules

Avoid bulky texture near the cuticle margin.

Keep sidewalls clean (snagging happens here).

Choose texture level based on client lifestyle and length.

2) Placement + balance

Center placement is usually safest.

For long nails, keep weight closer to the apex area (balanced).

Use “press test” before cure: does it feel stable and flush?

3) Encapsulation options

Full encapsulation: best for wearability and longevity.

Partial encapsulation: keeps texture visible but increases snag risk.

No encapsulation: only for intentional textured finish (client must accept maintenance).

4) Longevity problems + fixes

Popping off: insufficient adhesion or wrong product; prep and seal base.

Snagging: edges not sealed; encapsulate or smooth with top coat layers.

Lifting around charm: charm too close to sidewall/cuticle; re-place.

5) Luxury standard

Luxury 3D/texture is:

balanced and symmetrical

comfortable to wear

sealed properly

intentional (not random blobs)
