Lesson 4: Extreme Shapes (Stiletto, Russian Almond, Length)

Advanced

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • [ ]  Identify extreme shape types (stiletto, Russian almond, long coffin) and explain which clients they are best for.

  • [ ]  Use a structure + balance checklist to keep extreme shapes strong without bulk (apex placement, sidewalls, reinforced tip).

  • [ ]  Apply a client lifestyle decision system to choose length and shape safely (wearability and retention).

  • [ ]  Troubleshoot common extreme-shape problems (leaning, cracking, sidewall collapse) and correct with refinement or rebuild.

Extreme shapes require extreme standards

Long tapered nails look luxury when they’re balanced and durable. Without structure, they become uncomfortable, break easily, and damage natural nails.

1) Shape choice: who should get what?

Stiletto: dramatic, sharp, best for clients who are careful with hands.

Russian almond: elegant, tapered, often more wearable than stiletto.

Long coffin: bold, strong when sidewalls and tip are reinforced.

2) The structure rules for extreme shapes

Build strength at the apex/stress area.

Keep sidewalls supported (no thin weak walls).

Reinforce the tip (avoid thin brittle ends).

Maintain symmetry (leaning happens when one side is thinner).

3) Balance checklist (simple)

Top view: centerline straight, shape evenly tapered

Side view: apex placed correctly for length

Barrel view: thickness even, no side lean

Free edge: reinforced but refined

4) Common problems + fixes

Leaning/twisting: uneven thickness or sidewalls; rebuild or rebalance.

Cracking at tip: tip too thin; reinforce and reshape.

Sidewall collapse: over-pinching or weak structure; rebuild with stronger product.

Bulky look: too much product; refine shoulders around apex.

5) Luxury standard

Luxury extreme shapes are:

symmetrical

strong but slim

comfortable to wear

durable with proper aftercare

Practice drills:

  1. Shape mapping drill: draw centerline and sidewalls on 10 tips.

  2. Extreme apex drill: place apex correctly for long length.

  3. Lean correction drill: identify leaning and correct structure.

Coach’s checklist:

  • [ ]  Shape centered and symmetrical

  • [ ]  Apex supports leverage

  • [ ]  Sidewalls strong

  • [ ]  Tip reinforced

  • [ ]  Uses lifestyle consult

  • Quiz me on extreme shape failures and fixes (15 questions).

  • Create a lifestyle consult script for extreme nails.

  • Help me choose which shape fits each client scenario.
